Most people know we have different phases of sleep. But did you know we also have different types of dreams and nightmares during these phases, some even in black and white? 💭

It is generally assumed that dreams only occur during REM-sleep, but research suggests we also dream during non-REM sleep cycles.

💤 REM dreams are generally more fantastical, colourful and vivid.

💤 Non-REM dreams are more concrete and usually characterised in black and white ! ⚫⚪

During the REM sleep, the emotional centre of the brain is highly active whereas the logical rational centre of the brain is slowed. This might be part of the explanation why these dreams are more emotive and surreal.
